Semester's done!

  • Nov. 26th, 2009 at 11:46 PM

Wrote a final and handed in a paper today. Now I just have exam week left. I have one on the 9th, one on the 12th, and then I'm home on the 12th.

On the NaNo front, I'm really going to have to push out some writing to make the deadline. But I'm hopeful!

34912 / 50000 words. 70% done!

Update on school situation

Got it all worked out. The balance was because the site hadn't been changed yet and because I got into another course. That's okay. I wasn't happy with that explanation (since I live in a world where these sorts of things should be able to be updated instantly), but I can live with it.

The refusal from the course doesn't have as good an explanation. Apparently priority is given to Specialists, not Majors. Okay, that I can understand. What I can't understand is that basically they initially list the enrollment cap at 30 and then drop it down to 15 later, picking only 15 Specialists and telling everyone else, "tough luck". Because of that I'm going to be short half a credit on my Crime, Law and Deviance major. I'm first on the waitlist for another course that can replace it, but still. If I hadn't been smart enough to get on the waitlist as soon as I saw that I had been refused, I'd be screwed.

Fuck UTM

I just checked today to make sure my tuition payment went through. Yeah, it hasn't. I paid on the 11th. It should have gone through by now.

Not only that, but in the process of checking this, I've found that I've been refused from one of my courses. SOC456. Senior Seminar in Law and Society. I have all the prereqs, I'm in the right major, everything is right. There is no reason for me to have been refused. And to top it all off, I can't do anything about it until tomorrow because the fucking registrar closes at 4pm their time. That's 2 here. What the hell UTM, what the hell. How are people supposed to call when you aren't open at reasonable times? There really should be a 24 hour emergency line for out-of-province people. Now I'm going to be pissed off until I can call tomorrow morning before work. It's not going to be a nice call. Hopefully I'll be able to keep from adding "you fucking incompetent assholes" to the end of every sentence.

New series

I decided that I'm going to post my project from my last writing class. We were told to write a series of seven stories all with a common theme. All of mine are based on events that actually happened to me. Some of it may not be 100% accurate, but the underlying story is true. I'm going to post them in order, even though I don't think the first one is my best.

So, yeah. I really have to work at getting all these up. Here's the third piece from my summer writing course.

So, I had three essays due this week. Two today and one yesterday. I actually managed to start working on them early and got them all done on time. SOC307 (Delinquency) went great. No outside research needed, interesting topic, short. I loved it. PSY321 (Cross-cultural psych) went okay. Research finished early, interesting topic, a bit confusing, but overall okay. PSY360 (Operant and classical conditioning) on the other hand...not so fun.

Yeah...that was fun. Not. But, now I'm done and I get a break until my first exam on the 18th. Phew.

And now the blog group thing. The topic was to choose a city in a country other than your own, and tell why you'd like to visit it. I'm picking...London, England and Tokyo, Japan. I know, that's two. But I can't decide.

So, yeah. That's where I'd like to go and why. Hopefully I'll actually get there sometime soon. Daddy? Wanna pay for it?

It's DONE!!!!!!!!!!

The murder mystery is over!!!!! Finally! No more work for Morgan and me. It's so nice to have it finally done with.

So, yeah. It went well. The show was only half an hour long, and that was only because we stretched it out with intermission. But, no one really forgot their lines. The few mess ups we had were easily covered. The dances went over well and everyone seemed to have a good time.

Now I just have to decide if I want to stay on the forensic exec next year. I hate the president and the vice-president. I think that if I ONLY do webmaster stuff, it'll be okay. I just don't know if I'm going to be able to just do that. Well, I still have a day to think about it.

Time for murder

Tonight's the murder mystery. After working on it all year and almost canceling three times, it's finally here. We had dress rehearsal yesterday and it didn't go so well. Plus only 5 people RSVP'd and we don't even know if they'll be able to find the room.

But, hopefully everyone will remember their lines, the music won't screw up, the dances will look good, and the people will guess who the killer is. I'll update later with how it went. For now, wish us luck.

More writing

Alright, once again, I'm trying to get all my writing up. So, here's another assignment from WRI203. It's now been two years since this was written and it will, at some point, get a major re-write. I just finished a quick edit and I can't believe how much I hate it. But, I figure it's good to put some of my not-so-good stuff out there too.

The assignment was to write about an incident at school.

And the topic for this one was...I have no idea. But, here it is anyway.

Math )

And that concludes everything that was written for WRI203, excluding journals and exercises of course.

So, I'm sick. I'm coughing, have a stuffed up nose and practically no voice. Not only that but I had to deal with a horrible bitch today. She's running against my roommate in an election and, when they read their speeches tonight, every single thing she said was a slam against roomie. She's such a bitch! I really hope she loses. If she doesn't then I'm resigning from my position. And so is another of the executives. So screw them.

Now, I'm sure that that didn't really make sense to anyone who isn't involved, so here's a meme instead.

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on yaoi, favorite type of underwear, etc. Repost in your own journal so that we can all learn more about each other.

I'm finally getting around to posting stuff from my first writing class. I figured there's no harm in putting it up.

This first piece was "Write about a work-related incident.

For this next one, we had to write about a family member. I figured, hey, my cat's a member of the family.

And in other news, I'm going home today!!!!!

I've just finished two week of midterms, including two yesterday alone, and now I'm ready to go home. My plane leaves at 7pm tonight. Luckily that gives me plenty of time to pack, since I haven't even started yet. Meh, it'll get done. Eventually.

A piece from my writing class last summer. This is part two in the series on my high school. This is the first piece that I wrote and was really fun. This is also the piece that I was asked to read to the class. The professor just sprung it on me ("And after the break, Allison will be reading") but I got some really good feedback.

Time to start uploading the work from my other writing class. I did my project on my high school. If anyone here knows about it, I did take some liberties with my pieces. Most of the pieces are completely true, but there are some that have been embellished and others that are almost completely made up. They're all inspired by real events though. Some of the names are different, just because I couldn't always remember the right ones. I'm also cutting out my source lists. If anyone really wants to know what's on them, I can post them later.

Anyway, here's the first instalment. Not the first one I wrote, but the first one that should be read.

Here's an update on how the diet's going.

School's going good too. I just finished my midterms and now I have an essay due next week, the week after, and finals the week after that. Summer school sure is hectic. Anyway, I should get back to working on my essay. I have 12 journal articles I have to read through tonight so I can start writing tomorrow.

I'm done my writing class now. Now I get to edit everything and get it all ready to hand in. I'm going to post some of the pieces over the next few days so if anyone wants to help edit, please feel free. They'll also be on my fictionpress account Feel free to check out my stuff there too.

So, here is assignment...5, I think.

I got my care package today! Yay! I had most everything I had forgotten, including my health card. Which is good, since I'm going to the doctor on Friday (stupid body, having everything break down all at once). It also had banana bread and cookies! Yay! And my Death Note. Run in fear, all those who annoy me. For I shall write thy name in my book and ye shall die! Mwahahahaha!

Yes, well. Moving on.

I had the absolute worst schedule today. I had class at 9am til 10 and then was off until 5pm. Sucky. I ended up going to the mall and buying books (on cannibalism!) and Fullmetal Alchemist vol. 10. The I came home, got my package and went back to school. Then after we went out to dinner and on the way home missed the bus by 2 minutes (literally, we saw it drive away as our bus pulled up) and so had to walk 3 blocks. At night. In the cold. Carrying school stuff. Including laptops. Sucky.

So that was my day. Pretty boring, but that can be a good thing.

I'm still cold. I need my slippers, but they're way over in my closet. Too far away and too buried under stuff to get. Maybe I'll just crawl into bed.

I'm home!

So yay! I'm finally home! I now get 4 months of relaxing at home with my own bed and all my cats. Of course, I have to get a job. Dad keeps bugging me to go apply somewhere and I've only been home for 21 hours. I don't know where I'm going to work, since I don't like people. But hopefully I'll find something.

So my first year of university is over. Assuming I pass everything, no more calculus! I only needed 34% on the final to pass the course, so I thing I'm okay. I'm not too sure about bio though. I never thought I'd do better in math than in bio, but I did. Other than that first year was...okay. I learned a lot. Mainly that I actually do need to study. Next year should be different, especially since I'm going to be taking 6 courses a semester. What am I thinking! I barely made it through with 4 this year. And I still have to do chemistry too! Well, it's too soon to think about that. I have all summer before I even get to pick my courses.

In other news, my website's up. Go check it out!
