Why do I do this to myself?

Yeah, I'm doing NaNo again this year. So far so good. I'm at 2497 words, which is more than I wrote in total last year. Luckily I have until the 19th before anything is due, at which point I have an essay that week and an essay and a final the week after, but whatever. I'm going to be happy just to get anything written, really.

After it's all done, I might upload the story for people to read. It's going to need some major edits though. Serious, serious editing!

My first story

Mom and I have finally started cleaning out the house to get ready to rebuild. We went through my baby stuff today and I found the first story I ever wrote (with Mom's help) at age 5. And it's illustrated!

And they all lived happily ever after!

Aberhart stories

writing
I still have a bunch of stuff from my writing classes to post. And, since I'm dropping the minor, there won't be more coming. Once I get the last set posted, that's it. But there's still a lot to post. I have the rest of the Aberhart series and then everything from my last course. Oh, and for those of you who actually went to Abe, please remember that I took creative license with these.

New series

writing
I decided that I'm going to post my project from my last writing class. We were told to write a series of seven stories all with a common theme. All of mine are based on events that actually happened to me. Some of it may not be 100% accurate, but the underlying story is true. I'm going to post them in order, even though I don't think the first one is my best.

This is what I do on my days off

writing
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

So, I kinda cheated. I didn't always pick the first random song that came up. I decided to not use anything that was instrumental, not in English, or from a musical. Man, that severely limited my options. Oh, and I'm doing more than one of these sets. This first one is for Kingdom Hearts. The next set will be done during my next day off, Tuesday.

Creative writing assignments

Okay, so this is REALLY late, but I finally finished the last two pieces for my creative writing group. I used the same world as the last one. This world is slowly taking over my life. If only I actually had time to sit down and write more of it.

The first  prompts were
1. A library
2. Someone or something French
3. A river
4.A glass bead

Oh, and warning for slight language.

The book )

The second set of prompts were
1. Violet (the colour)
2. A hobby (any hobby)
3. A landmark building (any landmark building, so long as it's still standing) - I kinda cheated and used a location, but close enough
4. The phrase "Sweet Monkey Fritters"

The trip )

So there we go. Two more stories from the life of Liam McBane. I think he's starting to hate me.

Outhouse in the Office

So, yeah. I really have to work at getting all these up. Here's the third piece from my summer writing course.

So, I entered this contest over on deviantART a while back. While working on my entry I ended up creating a whole world and have since started yet another story. This one is about Liam McBane: Finder of Mystical Stuff, Helper of Magical Things, Protector of Those Who Pay Him, Destroyer of Those Who Piss Him Off, Practically-Slave of the Old Man (otherwise known as Ruler of the Old World), and pencil pusher by day. Oh, and he has a pet dragon. And hangs out with an angel (though not by choice). So, um, yeah. That's what came out of one picture (more specifically, the picture that I made my icon out of).

Anyway, in addition to the blog group thing, I also joined a creative writing blog group thing. Our first challenge was to write a piece involving
  • a blue car
  • a clock
  • a man named Dominic
  • the time of 2:00 - am or pm, you decide
And thus, the first part of my new story was written. So, here it is. It might not make a whole lot of sense since it will eventually be a section of a much larger piece. Because of that, I've put some notes at the end to clarify some things. Anyway, here it is.

The Clock )

And now, for the notes.

More writing

Alright, once again, I'm trying to get all my writing up. So, here's another assignment from WRI203. It's now been two years since this was written and it will, at some point, get a major re-write. I just finished a quick edit and I can't believe how much I hate it. But, I figure it's good to put some of my not-so-good stuff out there too.

The assignment was to write about an incident at school.

Heroes )

And the topic for this one was...I have no idea. But, here it is anyway.

Math )

And that concludes everything that was written for WRI203, excluding journals and exercises of course.

More writing

I'm finally getting around to posting stuff from my first writing class. I figured there's no harm in putting it up.

This first piece was "Write about a work-related incident.

For this next one, we had to write about a family member. I figured, hey, my cat's a member of the family.

And in other news, I'm going home today!!!!!

I've just finished two week of midterms, including two yesterday alone, and now I'm ready to go home. My plane leaves at 7pm tonight. Luckily that gives me plenty of time to pack, since I haven't even started yet. Meh, it'll get done. Eventually.

Crescendos in the Classroom

A piece from my writing class last summer. This is part two in the series on my high school. This is the first piece that I wrote and was really fun. This is also the piece that I was asked to read to the class. The professor just sprung it on me ("And after the break, Allison will be reading") but I got some really good feedback.

Students in the School

writing
Time to start uploading the work from my other writing class. I did my project on my high school. If anyone here knows about it, I did take some liberties with my pieces. Most of the pieces are completely true, but there are some that have been embellished and others that are almost completely made up. They're all inspired by real events though. Some of the names are different, just because I couldn't always remember the right ones. I'm also cutting out my source lists. If anyone really wants to know what's on them, I can post them later.

Anyway, here's the first instalment. Not the first one I wrote, but the first one that should be read.

Another piece from class

I'm done my writing class now. Now I get to edit everything and get it all ready to hand in. I'm going to post some of the pieces over the next few days so if anyone wants to help edit, please feel free. They'll also be on my fictionpress account Feel free to check out my stuff there too.

So, here is assignment...5, I think.

I'm finally getting around to posting some of the stuff I wrote for class. We had to write about a childhood incident and this is what I ended up with. This is the third edit, so if anyone has any comments I'd love to hear them.
